Three Types of Casino Parties and How to Plan for Them
People throw casino parties for all sorts of reasons. I’ve helped plan backyard casino birthdays, competitive casino-themed fundraising events for tech bros, and casino-themed team-building events for some of the world’s largest corporations. In my experience, the best events are tailored to the crowd and expectations. Some people want to feel like they’ve stepped into a James Bond film, going all-out on costumes, decorations, and food. They want 60s vibes, glitz, glam, and their martinis shaken, not stirred. Others just want to chill with their buddies around a poker table in their best polos and khakis.
As the party planner, your job is to put yourself in your guest’s shoes and plan accordingly. Here are the three main types of casino parties and some tips for each.
1. The Simple and Intimate Get-Together
For this type of party, you're only expecting a handful people -- no more than you would invite to a family barbeque. As such, it requires the least amount of planning and equipment (unless, of course, you’re going for an upscale private experience). Here are some things to keep in mind.
- Keep it simple: You don't need to go overboard with decorations or fancy food. Focus on creating a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere where your guests can enjoy each other's company and play some games.
- Choose games that are easy to learn and play: Poker, blackjack, and roulette are all good options. You can find simple rules online or even buy pre-made game sets.
- Provide snacks and drinks: Finger foods, chips and dip, and a cooler of beer and soda should be sufficient.
- Set a casual dress code: Jeans and t-shirts are perfectly fine.
2. The All-Out Casino Themed Party Experience
This is the type of party you throw for milestone birthdays, prom nights, weddings, and other special events where you're expecting a lot of people. You’ll definitely want to hire professional event planners and casino party dealers for a thrilling (and headache-free) event. Here’s how to go about it.
- Choose a theme and stick to it: This could be anything from the Roaring Twenties to James Bond. Encourage your guests to dress up in costumes.
- Decorate accordingly: Use themed decorations, music, and even food to create the right atmosphere.
- Offer a variety of games: Include some less common games like craps or baccarat to add to the authentic casino feel.
- Consider hiring a professional dealer: This can add to the excitement and ensure that the games are played correctly.
3. The Big Event (Think: Fundraiser, Corporate Holiday Party, or Gala)
Of course, "a lot of people" can mean something very different at the corporate level. Some 21 Fun events see as many as 2,000+ guests. Here’s how our clients ensure a winning experience:
- Let the professionals handle the event planning: This takes most of the stress off of you so you can focus on what matters most – having fun!
- Rent a venue: A large space like a ballroom or banquet hall will be necessary.
- Go all out with the decorations: Create a truly immersive casino experience with professional lighting, sound, and decorations.
- Hire professional dealers and entertainers: This will create a more authentic and exciting atmosphere for your guests.
- Provide a variety of food and drink options: Offer a buffet or plated dinner, as well as a variety of cocktails and non-alcoholic beverages.
